Street Fighter V Beta Postponed Indefinitely Amid Major Issues

street-fighter-vThe Street Fighter V beta has had a troubled life. The whole period where players thought they would be spending time with the game has been hamstrung by server and technical issues. In a genre that requires split second precision, that is a pronounced problem.

Well, it seems Capcom have had enough and have called an end to the Beta. In a Capcom-Unity Blog post, the developer apologised saying:

Capcom offers its sincerest apologies to everyone who participated in this first beta test.  While the purpose of a beta is to work out these type of issues, it was very clear that the issues we faced were more severe than we were prepared for.

After three days of testing, while we were making progress and collecting valuable data, we felt the majority of players were not having a good experience, and the best course of action would be to take the servers offline for extended maintenance.  We will be postponing our first beta phase until we believe the experience is going to be a positive one for players.

This is one of the major issues with offering a beta as a pre-order bonus to customers. Betas are supposed to be for ironing out these issues, but with money invested, there is an expectation that this will work and justify putting a purchase down early. In the long run, this is probably good thing too. It would have been a disaster if this is how the game launched. Hopefully this is resolved with out too much grief.
