Warhammer 40,000: Apocalypse Returning to a Table Near You

Now that it's been a few days since Games Workshop made a million wallets cry out with the release of Citadel's Contrast paint line, the fiendish overminds behind Warhammer 40,000 are back with even more ways to keep you at that second and third job.

Warhammer 40,000: Apocalypse is returning to the grim-dark future that knows only war, and promises to be a way to get your entire collection of 40k models on the table at once.

The joke's on them, though: My 40k collection is only about 45 models right now, so I guess I'll be sticking to Kill Team.

Still, if you have a ton of Warhammer 40k toy soldiers, and you're looking for a good excuse to roll about five bajillion dice, Apocalypse might be right up your alley. Here's what you get in the big-ole' Apocabox:

Along with the Apocalypse Field Manual (your complete guide to playing cinematic, massed battles in the 41st Millennium), the set includes dozens of pop-out card tokens for keeping track of the action, from orders assigned to each Detachment to large and small blast markers that represent a unit's embattled status. There are also a whopping 300 Command Asset cards – split between universal and faction-specific cards – from which you can create a custom deck to give you the edge in battle. Command Assets are used in Apocalypse to unleash devastating psychic powers and pull off cunning strategies, so you'll want to make sure you choose the best combination for the units and Detachments at your disposal.

There's even more options available besides the big Apocabox. The Command Assets Deck has an additional 100 cards available, which should allow you to bring even more missions and mayhem to your games of Warhammer 40,000: Apocalypse.

Somehow, Games Workshop has figured out how to get movement trays back into Warhammer 40,000, which is probably a good thing for a rules system that promises to get a massive points value game over with in a couple of hours.

There will also be new dice, including the first d12's that I've ever seen in Warhammer 40,000.

Now, if you're thinking "hey, I only have 45 Warhammer 40k models" right now, you're in luck: Games Workshop will be releasing a bunch of Warhammer 40,000: Apocalypse Battalion boxes, which will get you the core segment of an Apocalypse army.
