The World Of Final Fantasy XV Now Has A Second Mobile Tie-In – 'A New Empire'
Epic Action, a subsidiary of MZ, today announced the launch of the global, free-to-play, mobile game Final Fantasy XV: A New Empire. This particular mobile tie-in is an MMO game, much like Kingdom Hearts Unchained X, and is now available in the Apple App Store, on Google Play, and in the Amazon Marketplace.
This is all part of Square Enix's plan to turn Final Fantasy XV into its own self-sustaining universe of game, film, and anime content. A New Empire brings "strategic, concurrent, real-time gameplay" which MZ has developed in their global mobile MMO games Game of War – Fire Age and Mobile Strike.
The new game will allow players to create alliances and battle with each other live, in real-time, as part of an on-going story. You know, like your usual MMO. Just, on a phone, and set in the universe of Final Fantasy XV – which was originally set to be a side-story to Final Fantasy XIII, which just makes this whole thing even more absurd.
No, this is not the Final Fantasy XV mobile game that I decided was E3 2017's Game of Show, but I think my point still stands, regardless. Our love of Final Fantasy XV has given Square Enix license to give us as many tie-in games, apps, animes, and films as they can possibly wring out of their creative teams.
The announcement today also included the following statements from MZ and Square Enix. If you want the real reader experience for these two quotations, just add some generic Bond villain poses and fluffy white Persian cats to the mix, and it really drives the point home.
"Final Fantasy XV has become an iconic cultural force with a passionate global community and we are huge fans," said MZ CEO Gabe Leydon. "We are incredibly honored to partner with Square Enix to bring Final Fantasy XV to mobile during the 30th anniversary of the FINAL FANTASY franchise."
"The partnership with MZ breathes new life into the mobile gaming world," said Yosuke Matsuda, President and CEO of Square Enix. "We are delighted that the talented team at MZ, with a successful track record in developing and publishing global mobile games, has adapted the Final Fantasy XV universe into a mobile strategy game." Hajime Tabata, Director of Final Fantasy XV adds, "I'm very pleased to be able to work with such an amazing partner on this new Final Fantasy XV, which players around the world will be able to enjoy together."
For those of you who were worried about it, Final Fantasy XV: A New Empire does features Noctis, Gladiolus, Ignis, and Prompto and is set in the world of Eos.
The Final Fantasy XV: A New Empire launch will be supported with both an international ad campaign and an ad campaign in Japan that will feature a major Japanese superstar who has yet to be named.
Personally, I'm going to be taking a hard pass on this one. I've got one too many Final Fantasy MMOs on my plate as it is.
