Actor John Cena to Enter WWE Royal Rumble
Superstar actor John Cena has announced that he'll be entering WWE's Royal Rumble this year. Cena, star of such films as The Marine, Trainwreck, and Ferdinand, and reality TV shows like Total Divas and Total Bellas, will appear at the annual January wrestling event. Cena isn't the first celebrity to enter the Rumble; Drew Carey famously entered in 2001, earning a spot in the WWE Hall of Fame. If Cena's appearance goes well, he could be looking at a Hall of Fame ring in his future too.
"A sunny morning on the first day of 2018," Cena mused. "Possibilities are endless, opportunities are plentiful."
Amongst those possibilities, it seems, is a return to the pro wrestling ring. Most people don't know this, but before he made it in Hollywood, Cena was a sixteen-time WWE world champion.
"Time to #EarnTheDay," Cena continued, "because on January 28th, I'm entering the #RoyalRumble match and earning a chance at history @WrestleMania! #Raw"
The history Cena is referring to is a possible 17th world championship, which would break Ric Flair's officially-acknowledged-by-WWE record. The winner of the Royal Rumble gets an automatic title shot at WrestleMania. That's not the only history Cena could make if he won the Royal Rumble. As a two-time Rumble winner, Cena is behind only podcast host "Stone Cold" Steve Austin in total Rumble victories, and a win here would tie that record. Of course, that would require Cena take time off from his busy schedule of filming movies and hosting talk shows and awards ceremonies, so a full-time run seems unlikely.
But which Royal Rumble match will Cena enter? For the first time ever, 2018's Royal Rumble PPV event will feature both a men's and women's Royal Rumble match. Luckily, WWE took to Twitter to confirm that it will be the men's match Cena is entering.
The 30th annual Royal Rumble takes place on January 28.
