Gotham Season 4 Adds Michael Cerveris As Professor Pyg
Fox has announced that they will be adding Fringe alum Michael Cerveris to the cast of Gotham. Tony-Award winning actor will join the series fourth season as Professor Pyg, a relatively new villain created by Grant Morrison and Andy Kubert in Batman #666. The character will appear in a multi-episode story arc.
In the comics, Pyg is Lazlo Valentin, the schizophrenic leader of the Circus of Strange who likes to make perfect people he calls Dollotrons. He does this using drills, hammers and ice picks to attach false doll faces over his victims. The process appears to include a form of lobotomization, which could explain the ice pick.
Cerveris, who played the Observer named September on Fringe, has also appeared in The Good Wife and in Amazon's new series The Tick. He is close friends with Gotham creator Danny Cannon. Cerveris was in Cannon's film school graduation video.
Pyg is a particularly gruesome character if the series stays close to his comic book counterpart. That should be interesting, seeing as the studio has already asked the show to tone down the take they had for the Scarecrow because it was too scary for broadcast television. Seems like the producers are trying to blow the doors off the season.
Fox's Gotham returns September 21st at 8 p.m. on Fox.
