The latest episode of Legends of Tomorrow answers the question we forget we wanted answered… what happened to the JSA? Turns out that the last mission of the JSA where everyone disappeared involved them going after the Spear of Destiny. They were joined by Rip Hunter who broke the spear into four pieces, giving one each to the three members of the JSA and taking the fourth himself. He then spread the heroes out in time to keep the pieces safe. We find this out when Rip tracks down former Dr. Midnight, Charles McNider in far future and takes back his fragment of the spear along with a device that can be used to manipulate peoples minds. The Legends arrive too late to help.

The next piece of the spear is in 507 A.D. in Britannia. Nate tries to explain to everyone that the Arthurian legends were just stories and that time in England is nothing like Camelot… only to be surrounded by Guinevere and the Knights of Camelot. Ray Palmer, a huge fan of the King Arthur stories, loves this and ends up getting caught up in the whole thing. Turns out he's not the only one as Courtney Whitmore / Stargirl is responsible for Camelot and has taken on the role of Merlin. But Rip and Damien Darhk are there and Rip uses the device from the future to control Arthur and a bunch of the knights, demanding the Legends turn over the spear fragment.

Courtney gives Amaya the spear fragment, but stays because she is in love with Arthur. The team prepares to leave only to learn that Ray has stayed behind to help defend Camelot. Sara is about to leave without him when Mick Rory gets up to go fight with Ray… and then Martin Stein and Jefferson Jackson. They all decide to stay and fight. Sara, Nate and Amaya joining the fray while Stein, Jax and Rory work on overriding Rip's mental control using a device that Stein "borrowed" from their trip to the future. Mick's intensity overrides Rips control, turning the tide of the fight. Ray confronts Darhk, beating him with swords but Darhk pulls a gun and shoots Ray… luckily he's wearing his armor. The team captures Rip and take him and their piece of the spear back to the ship and leave.

This was a fun episode, tapping into the Arthurian legends with a few fun twists. By the title, I think a lot of people (including myself) thought it was touch on the DC series Camelot 3000…  sadly it was not, but it was still good and moved the overall story along nicely.

So there is one piece of the spear left and it's in the hands of Nick's grandfather, Commander Steel. All the other JSAers have been accounted for (Hourman was killed and Obsidian didn't go on the mission).

Bringing Rip Hunter back on the Waverider may not be the best idea the team has ever had as we learn next week.
