Mark Wahlberg is starring in a new film directed by Mel Gibson, titled Flight Risk, for Lionsgate. Michelle Dockery and Topher Grace joined the cast today, according to Deadline. The film is based on a Black List script by Jared Rosenberg from 2020. Davis Entertainment will produce with Gibson and Bruce Davey through Icon Productions. In the movie, Mark Wahlberg plays a pilot giving a ride to an Air Marshall (Dockery) who is transporting a prisoner (Grace). Tensions mount onboard, as not everyone on the plane is what they seem. I am guessing you can figure out the twist from just that little bit.

Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Dockery, and Topher Grace Together Would Usually Be Exciting

Those three in a thriller would usually excite me, but Gibson's directing ruins the whole thing for me. His history is well-documented, so it is unnecessary to go over it here. Anytime he is involved in anything, it just rubs me the wrong way. I have tried to watch old and new films he has starred in over the years, and he just takes me right out of it. Usually, I can ignore the noise and focus on what is onscreen, see past the performer, and focus on the performance, but he is the exception. Because of it, I never watched his last directorial outing with Lionsgate, Hacksaw Ridge.

Mark Wahlberg has worked with him in the past, so that is also no surprise. I wish this trio were working with anyone else cause the story, while kind of basic, could be special in their hands. Maybe Wahlberg should step behind the camera himself, and they can let Gibson go. Wishful thinking, I know. I am also probably in the minority on this one as well. Most will see the cast and be excited. I wish I were one of them.
