Man Do They Love To Change The Status Quo On Agents Of SHIELD

Yes, I'm going to be talking about the two-hour season finale of Agents of SHIELD. So spoilers ahead.

ShieldFinale

The two-hour season finale of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD wrapped the season up but also reminds us that each season the series is something new. The first season was about building the team and what happened to Phil Coulson. Then everything changed and Coulson was now director and trying to rebuild SHIELD from scratch. They focused on the crystals and the obelisk plus the remnants of HYDRA. Season three changed again to become all about the Inhumans. Each season has ended with clues to the new status quo for the new season. This one is no different.

But lets start with some of the important things. The first hour was all about stopping Hive from launching the missile. It was pretty straight forward and we got to see that Daisy was at her wits end, having withdrawals from being swayed. The team goes after Hive and actually captures him and takes Holden Radcliffe into custody. This will become important later.

We also get to see the end of Daisy's vision. In what may have been the oddest scene of the series, Lincoln Campbell and Grant Ward / Hive float together in a Quinjet above the Earth, having a civilized moment just before they are blown up. That SHOULD be the last we see of Brett Dalton and Luke Mitchell on the series. But you never know with this show.

So the 44 minutes of the first episode and 34 minutes of the second are used to wrap things up. The last ten minutes set up the new season starting six months later and we see that Daisy is no longer with SHIELD. She now looks like Goth Felicity Smoak from Arrow and is helping the family of the Inhuman that gave her the vision. Agent Coulson and his partner Mac are staking them out but are unable to capture Daisy before she takes off. Coulson talks about reporting to the Director. Taking a look at these changes. Coulson is back to being an Agent which will probably make fans happy. His character is what made the show work and having him as an executive took away some of his screen time. With Lincoln dead, Daisy out. It's possible that the Secret Warrios project has been cancelled. Or at least that Inhuman angle may not be as prevalent next season.

The next seen has Radcliffe returning to his office and talking to his A.I. about celebrating. He's opening up a bottle of 40-year old Balvenie Scotch (excellent choice, but goes for around $4,000.00 a bottle.) He talks about having cleared his name and having been working with Fitz and Simmons. We saw early in the episode he began working with the SHIELD team. We can draw from the scene that he's stuck around and is somehow involved. And that Fitz and Simmons are still together. (I was sure it was Fitz that was going to die.) And the last thing we see is Radcliffe talking about what a shame it is that so many of their friends died when they didn't have to. That he has been working on an old SHIELD program to make L.M.D.s or Life Model Decoys. A staple of the old SHIELD comics.

That means we go into the new season with the following questions:

1) Who is the new director of SHIELD?

2) What is SHIELD's new mission? Are they back working with government knowledge?

3) What exactly is Daisy doing on her own?

4) Where is the rest of the team?

5) Where are Joey, Yo-Yo and the other Inhumans?

6) With Marvel's Most Wanted not getting picked up (yet), will we get Mockingbird and Hunter back?

7) And finally, the big question. With Hydra and Hive gone… who is the new threat / villain?

Let's see what the summer brings us news wise.
