There Was One Scene In 'Wonder Woman' That Was Reshot

There are a lot of reasons why Wonder Woman is a good, but the main reason is that director Patty Jenkins was able to make her movie and put it on screen. We've already reported that there are no deleted scenes for this movie, and that the reshoots were minimal. There was only one notable scene that was reshot according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The scene as originally shot had Diana (Gal Gadot) and Steve (Chris Pine) walking toward the World War I frontlines, readying herself for her showdown with Ares. Jenkins watched a cut of the movie in London, and she realized something was missing.

"I wanted to ramp that tension as much as possible, and unfortunately, we didn't have it," she told The Hollywood Reporter in a cover story interview. "That scene was just a slightly tense scene of them walking. I was like 'I need her to see some brutality.' So, we added her seeing the horses being whipped. It was actually something that had been in the script originally."

As THR notes, that is a very minor change considering how much reshoots can shape a movie for better or for worse. Jenkins even notes that the scene was in the original screenplay by Allan Heinberg.

"We replaced that one scene with a reshot scene, and we didn't change the order of a single scene," Jenkins said. "So what you saw is exactly the movie that we were always making."

Jenkins got to back the movie she wanted to make and put it right up there on screen. No deleted scenes, no game changing "extended cuts" to make the plot make sense, no entire sequences that were in the advertising but never made it into the movie. This is Patty Jenkins Wonder Woman movie right there, on screen, for all of us to see. That doesn't happen very often anymore.

Summary: Before she was Wonder Woman she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained warrior. When a pilot crashes and tells of conflict in the outside world, she leaves home to fight a war to end all wars, discovering her full powers and true destiny.

Wonder Woman, directed by Patty Jenkins, stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, David Thewlis, Robin Wright, and Connie Nielsen. Check it out in theaters now.
