Star Wars: Episode IX Has Been Delayed To December 2019

Star Wars: Episode IX has been pushed back, now that it has a new director. According to Variety, the movie has moved from May 24th, 2019 to December 20th, 2019 — a delay that isn't that surprising, considering the sudden directors change. This will give J.J. Abrams and writer Chris Terrio more time to work on the script.

Star Wars: Episode IX Has Been Delayed To December 2019

The move to December 2019 means that the movie is now opening up against the film adaptation of the musical Wicked and also a mere two weeks after Wonder Woman 2 comes out. Star Wars has, thus far, done very well in the December months, so they delay isn't surprising at all. What is surprising is the fact that they haven't delayed the currently still-filming Han Solo movie, despite the fact that it lost its directors several months into filming. Perhaps Abrams would only take this project on if he got the time he needed to work on the script. Lucasfilm and Disney clearly like him, so it wouldn't be surprising if they agreed to those terms.

This story is developing, so there could be more information to come.
