The CW Seed Streams Forever

The CW Seed recently started showing all the episodes from the one season of Constantine. I really liked the series when it aired. Another series that debuted the same year and only got one season was Forever on ABC. It starred Ioan Gruffudd, Judd Hirsch and Alana De La Garza and focused on a medical examiner that was immortal. If he died, he would be reborn instantly in the middle of the river… which led to some awkward moments as he would be naked.

The show combined a few standard tropes of the detective genre including the super smart non-cop helping the police solve crimes. He was a bit Sherlock Holmes, a touch of Castle and then throw in the immortality. The premise isn't new, Fox tried it not too long ago with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau back in 2008 with a series called New Amsterdamn. What made the show work for me was the cast. There was a genuine connection between Gruffudd and Hirsch and between Gruffudd and De La Garza. The one bright side to them not getting the ratings they needed is that the writers knew they were in trouble and created an almost satisfactory ending to the first season. If you liked the show, it left you wanting more… but you also felt that you got some of the answers.

The CW Seed has picked up the full season and is making it available to watch. If you missed it the first time, it could be a good summer filler for you.
