When They Asked Jon Hamm To Audition For The Tudors Thinking He Was John Hannah

I just attended the press screening for Black Mirror: "White Christmas". This time I made it through with my own black mirror intact, and am on the 170 bus right now writing this article.

imageThere were Christmas crackers with jokes written by the show's writer Charlie Brooker,  a viewing of the feature length Christmas edition of the social science fiction horror show Black Mirror, and an interview and Q&A afterwards which I will post when I get home.

imageBut I wanted to share one story told in the cast and crew interrogation afterwards where Mad Men's Jon Hamm, who plays an amoral tech support man, told us that he auditioned for The Tudors, learned the lines, mastered the Scottish accent and performed for the casting directors, only to discover that they had booked him thinking he was the Scottish actor John Hannah.

imageYou may know Hannah from Four Weddings And A Funeral, Spartacus, voiceovers for the Co-Op, Charlie Brooker's other drama A Touch Of Cloth… but not The Tudors. Because, even though Jon Hamm thinks he did, John Hannah didn't get the part either.

Bleeding Cool will run the full video later.

Oh and Black Mirror? A real Christmas cracker. Probably the best thing you'll watch all festive season. More on that later as well.
