Blythe: The Trailer Park Knight Rises by Dan Wickline – Read the First Chapter
You know how on the weekend we like to run stories about crowdsourced projects from indie creators? Turns out I (Dan Wickline) have something like that myself, and I figured it was time I shared it with everyone here.
I've been writing a long time; my first published come was over 20 years ago and I wrote my first story for Avatar Press, Bleeding Cool's parent company, back in 2001. I published my first novel, Deadly Creatures, in 2013 after having written the majority of it live on Twitter. That was a wild experience having people digitally looking over my shoulder as I wrote. I've since published two sequels and have been working on a host of other projects, but I have some idea that I want to get done that I figured I could squeeze in the cracks… and I have recently launched a Patreon account specifically for that purpose. To write new novels, a chapter at a time and post each week as subscribers can follow along and comment. And the first project out of the gate is Blythe: The Trailer Park Knight Rises.
Blythe is the story of a soldier named Erin Cooper who returns from military service to find that she has to rebuild her life from scratch in the economically devastated city of Blythe, CA. Erin has no money, suffers from PTSD, and is sleeping on the couch in a friend's trailer. When she discovers a meth lab at the very back of the trailer park, she decides to do something about it — with explosive results. She accidentally becomes a vigilante that the people rally behind but brings the ire of the corrupt politicians and police after her. The story is a sarcastic, dark, humored look at the world outside of the big cities and how desperate times calls for insane decisions. Erin Cooper becomes The Sting, and the California boarder will never be the same.
Blythe: The Trailer Park Knight Rise is available on my Patreon account for the monthly subscription of $1… a new chapter every week. And once the book is complete, It will be published both digitally and physically and I will start a new book for my subscribers. You can read the first chapter for free here.
