[2018 Westminster Dog Show] Random Thoughts on Day #2, Best in Show
As part of Bleeding Cool's never-ending mission to cover every corner of the pop culture universe — and because we have an unwavering love for dogs — we live-blogged the 142nd Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on Monday, February 12th and Tuesday, February 13th from 8 p.m. – 11 p.m. ET; with the competition broadcast on Fox Sports 1.
Entitled Going to the Dogs, our live-blog covered both nights of group competition from New York City's Madison Square Garden as well as Tuesday night's "Best in Show" finale. Our goal: offering some funny and irreverent takes on the internationally renowned canine competition from the perspective of someone whose broad knowledge base on dogs extends to never feeding them chocolate, knowing that a proper mix of wet and dry food is key, and that a tennis ball is to a dog what a large cardboard box is to an eight-year-old.
So the 142nd Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show came to a close Tuesday night, with winners in the Sporting, Working and Terrier Groups selected; and the Best in Show winner finally crowned. Here are our takeaways from the final night, as well as some thoughts on our first year covering the event:
As promised, here are the highlights from the Sporting, Working and Terrier Group competitions; as well as the full 2018 Best in Show ceremony:
Here is the transcript for Best in Show Winner Flynn's judging run during the final competition:
MICHAEL LAFAVE: The Bichon Frise hails from the Mediterranean region, eventually arriving in France. The name means "small dog with curly hair," giving the appearance of an animated powderpuff. The Bichon makes a lively, jovial companion for all ages and, his popularity is well-earned. This is Bichon Frise number 15.

BETTY-ANNE STENMARK: And would you show me the mouth, please?
– And Flynn, too, is also related to a past Best in Show winner, seven generations back, JR, who won in 2001.
– Measuring the physical traits. All these dogs are so well-groomed. A little last-minute touch-up here.
– Got to fix him up one last time.
– Well, Bill McFadden knows how to win at Westminster. The dogs have to be in perfect condition, perfect shape, perfect performance.
– We've had one previous Bichon Frise win Best in Show. Could Flynn be the second? Well, they're going to go crazy. And here at Madison Square Garden, they show up on the TV screens here when there's a tight shot along with watching the dog on the stage or on the carpet.
BETTY-ANNE STENMARK: And circle around, please.
