Special Olympics USA Games to Be Held in Central Florida in 2022
Today during the Special Olympics Summer Games, currently being held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Disney World, Special Olympics North America and Special Olympics Florida signed an agreement to bring the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games to Orlando. The games will be held June 5th-10th, 2022. According to the Disney Parks Blog:
Special Olympics serves as the world's largest sports organization empowering people with intellectual disabilities, and the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Special Olympics Florida, as well as mark the largest humanitarian event in Florida's history.
The 2022 Special Olympics USA Games will be comprised of 15 Olympic-style team and individual sports, as well as five potential demonstration sports, and is expected to bring together more than 4,000 elite athletes, 10,000 volunteers, 1,500 coaches and 75,000 fans from all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
This is an exciting announcement for the Wide World of Sports, and for all those participating!
