Queer For Fear: Shudder & EP Bryan Fuller Announce Docuseries Project
Shudder will be premiering a limited series, Queer For Fear, later this year with the help of Hannibal co-creator Bryan Fuller. Listen, friends, we may not be getting the imagined and written about (if you know, you know) season from Fuller giving us more of those Hannibal and Will moments but we'll be ok.
There's a long and often untold connection between both the queer community and the history of the horror genre. While the realm of horror has gone through unique periods throughout the decades, the struggles and rights of the LGBTQIA+ community have been seen and unseen, from striking down tropes to reexamining those that we still deem iconic (I'm looking at you Silence of the Lambs, which I still love but some things could have been left out). Queer for Fear: The History of Queer Horror will be a four-part limited series set to premiere later this year. Let's hope it's around Halloween because as a queer person myself I love the holiday and it only feels right on both fronts.
The news of Queer For Fear: The History of Queer Horror was recently announced at a panel held for television critics as part of AMC Networks' annual TCA presentations. Much can be expected from the limited series, with Fuller more than willing to dive into plenty of topics including the potential mentions of Hannibal based on his eagerness at the panel concerning that topic. So much remains to be discussed about queer people in horror, from creating the films to starring in them. Personally, I'm excited for the inevitable discussion about A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge. As always horror dives into some fears both reflected from society and based on personal levels, I can't wait to see where this series goes and what a queer horror nerd like me can learn from it.
