South Park Creators' Casa Bonita Comeback Story Gets Official Trailer

In the trailer from Sweet Relief and MTV Documentary Films, South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone tackled renovating Casa Bonita.

Matt Stone and Trey Parker have accomplished in Hollywood most dream of. Not only do they have the longest-running animated cable series of all time in Comedy Central's South Park, but most of their outside projects gained a cult following, like 2004's Team America: World Police, 1997's Orgasmo, and the Broadway megahit The Book of Mormon. Now, they could be part of one of the greatest entrepreneurial comeback stories in the restoration of their favorite Mexican-themed Colorado sensation, Casa Bonita. The Denver restaurant and pseudo-theme park and its story will be told in the documentary ¡Casa Bonita Mi Amor! from The Sweet Relief and MTV Documentary Films, which was featured at the Telluride Film Festival and the trailer's release.

South Park: Matt Stone & Trey Parker and The Comeback of Casa Bonita

The Casa Bonita trailer begins with a wizard puppet (played by Stone) welcoming patrons to the establishment, asking, "Anyone's parents divorced?" with Parker laughing. "People call Casa Bonita the 'Mexican restaurant Disneyland,'" Stone begins as we see vintage photos of the place the two grew up in. "When you grew up in Colorado, you just remember how awesome it was." "When I was a kid, it was a dream that one day, I could own Casa Bonita." It then cuts to the themed South Park season seven episode that shares the title of the restaurant with Cartman (Parker) threatening Kyle (Parker) as he backs into Casa Bonita.

The trailer shifts to the real-life inspiration the animators recreated in that episode from Cliff Divers, Black Bart's Cave, with a mix of interior and exterior shots. On stage, we see the heads of the core South Park characters Cartman, Kyle, Stan, and Kenny (both played by Stone) in front of a live audience, and we also see the two record lines like they would on the animated series, but specific to the restaurant. We see Parker act out what the characters would do in their motions like a puppet. The latter half of the trailer shows how deep the need for renovations was as the duo faced uncertainty before the opening. ¡Casa Bonita Mi Amor! (translated as "Beautiful House, My Love!") opens in select cities on September 13th.
