Adi Shankar Is Not Involved In DREDD Sequel Says 2000 AD Co-Owner Jason Kingsley

2000 AD 40th Anniversary Special - Cover B Original Art

When we last spoke about the Castlevania producer Adi Shankar, his projects for the year seemed to be a documentary called Adi Shankar's Gods and Monsters, the Castlevania project, and Bodied. Since then he's announced a "dark and gritty" Power Rangers series and has made promises about a sequel to 2012's DREDD.

The CEO of Rebellion, owner and publisher of 2,000 AD, and owner of the rights to Judge Dredd, Jason Kingsley told ScreenGeek the following, "While we truly do appreciate Adi's enthusiasm for Judge Dredd, he has no involvement with the franchise and any future cinematic or small screen outings. Claims of him pushing forward a sequel to DREDD are not true and we don't want fans to get excited only to have their hopes dashed. 2000 AD and Rebellion continue to work hard to bring the future's greatest lawman back to screens." So, it seemed like a DREDD sequel was not exactly in the works, but then Kingsley was then happy to state that the sequel may be moving forward sometime soon saying, "we are strongly moving in that direction." Which should be good news for DREDD Fans, less for Shankar.

The statement from Kingsley seems to indicate that Shankar has misled many people about his involvement in the DREDD franchise, especially when taken in context with his comments to twitter user Killer Kane about Shankar's claims:

That find is courtesy of Bloody-Disgusting.

Given Kingsley's statements, I've reached out about Shankar's other projects. In regards to his R-rated Animated Power Rangers, I reached out to Saban for comment about the Power Rangers series, but have yet to hear back as of press time. Any inquiries about the Castlevania show referred me to PR contacts who have yet to return a statement.

I will update this with any statement they chose to give – or not give as the case may be. My interview with Shankar can be found here.
