Halle Berry And Hugh Jackman Had A Secret Romantic Backstory For Storm And Wolverine

If you had any doubts that Wolverine is the Mary Sue of the X-Men universe, Halle Berry put them to rest in a recent interview in People Magazine and reported on sister-publication Entertainment Weekly's website.

According to Berry, there was more to a relationship between Storm and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine in the movies than a deleted scene where they share a kiss in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

"I joke in the movies, I'm like, 'How come nobody's loving on Storm.' Like what's wrong with Storm? Nobody is checking for Storm," Berry said in the interview, revealing that she and Jackman decided to incorporate a past romantic relationship into the way they played their characters, even if the romance didn't explicitly appear onscreen. "So, we decided that Storm and Logan had a thing, and then Jean came and messed that up."

In the comics, before Marvel killed Wolverine off in 2014, pretty much every other character in the Marvel universe wanted to be Wolverine, or wanted to be with him. A berserker maniac who murdered his own children, Wolverine was still invited to join the Avengers and looked to for advice from Captain America (this was before Cap was revealed to be a Nazi, so he was still considered the moral compass of the Marvel Universe). How could one character be both a killing machine with a troubled past and a samurai monk with a self-righteous moral code, lecturing Cyclops on putting children in harm's way? That's just Wolverine. So it's no surprise that, even in the unaired fictional backstories of the X-Men movie universe, Storm would pine for him.

Unfortunately, the normally open-minded Storm wasn't down with polyamorous relationships.

"When he really decided that Jean Grey was his… that caused a problem," said Berry. Berry said that Storm was heartbroken to lose Logan. "the having two girls at once thing, that didn't work for … that doesn't work for Storm."

But don't get the impression that Storm is some kind of prude. Asked if Wolverine's claws were "a problem," Berry replied, grinning "No. The claws were good."
