Microsoft Announces "Project Scarlett" Their Next Xbox Console
During the Xbox E3 showcase, Microsoft announced their next generation console, codename "Project Scarlett." Like the "Project Scorpio" before it, Scarlett will not be the final name of the console, as it'll be an Xbox something. Though, considering Microsoft's naming conventions, it'll probably be something a bit… nonsensical. After all, every Xbox has had a name that essentially equals One. From the original console to the 360 (360 degrees being a full circle) to the Xbox One (which was actually the third console), the naming system is a bit… strange.
While knew the "Project Scarlett" announcement was coming, we're almost surprised that it happened, as the Next Gen console rumblings have only really started. That said, Microsoft wanted to get the jump on Sony and Nintendo by announcing theirs first.
Like the "Project Scorpio" announcement, we mostly got a series of testimonials from staff at Microsoft about the console rather than specifics on hardware or design. What we do know is that the team is working on using SD and Solid State Drives to boost performance of the console, and that minimizing wait times is one of the major points for the design. Microsoft did indicate that the performance of the "Project Scarlett" is several times greater in magnitude than anything they've ever designed. Including the Xbox One X.
And it will be launching alongside Halo Infinite. So you'll get the next Halo installment as a lauch-day title for the next Xbox console. Which is pretty darn sweet.
