When Bleeding Cool scooped the news that Penguin Random House was buying Boom Studios back in July, Bleeding Cool was told – and reported – that this included Penguin Random House taking over distribution of Boom Studios as well. Well, after the news was announced officially, internally and externally, Boom Studios stated that the switch would happen in July 2025, alongside Marvel Comics, Dark Horse Comics, TokyoPop and IDW. Well, after the also-Bleeding Cool scooped news of Diamond Comic Distributors declaring Chapter 11 bankruptcy, that timescale has been shortened somewhat to the first of April 2025. Former Diamond Executive Vice President, and now Boom Studios Vice President of Sales, Josh Hayes, e-mailed retailers to say;
"Dear Partners – I'm writing to you today about some very important developments on the distribution landscape and how they impact BOOM! Studios. While we had previously announced the departure by BOOM! Studios from Diamond Comic Distributors effective July 1st, in light of recent industry developments, we have made the decision to accelerate the timeline for the transition of our Direct Market distribution to Penguin Random House to be effective April 1st, 2025. This will ensure that we can best support our retail partners and help you weather these market changes. We appreciate the many years of support from Diamond, and we greatly appreciate all that they've done for us over the years. As with any change, there may be challenges, but we feel this change is necessary and vital, so we urge patience along the way as we work toward this solution. In order to minimize the disruption, we will continue to offer our products in Diamond Previews, and will be available via Diamond in the same manner other PRH-distributed publishers are. We are currently working very closely with the PRH Comics team to align our schedules, and will have an update for you very soon about what those changes entail."
Boom Studios will continue to switch its bookstore distribution from Simon & Schuster to Penguin Random House in July as was originally planned. It's just that the comic book store direct market switch will now happen three months earlier…
