How Long Will Pretty Deadly #2 Stay On Apple's ComiXology App?
Tonight, Orbital Comics had a signing with Emma Rios and, as a result, were given special dispensation to sell Pretty Deadly #2 early. So I picked up a copy on my way to the Alan Moore shindig. Video of that in the morning.
Of late Apple has been rather prudish over certain comic books, for showing sex and nudity, with Image Comics falling foul with titles such as Sex, Sex Criminals and Black Kiss.
Satellite Sam seems to have survived (for now) but Pretty Deadly #2 may be just enough for Apple to rip it up – metaphorically speaking.
Previews of the book have shown pages from later on in the narrative. Because the comic begins in bed (okay, in a field, but it flips to the bed fairly shortly afterwards), is relatively graphic, and also funny, character revealing and beautifully portrayed, Rios pitching herself someone between Paul Pope and Marc Hempel.
There is also tons of violence. Guns exploding bodies, swords slicing them open and plenty of blood. I mean, this book doesn't just glorify violence, it beautifies its effects, finding treasure in the rot. This matters not to Apple, but the humping and pumping of non blood covered flesh may be too much.
So buy it in print tomorrow. If it's available digitally and you want it that way, do it fast before anyone notices the nippleage. Or buy it direct from Image or Comixology through their website and not the App.
These are the few panels from the scene we could run without getting NSFW'd… Pretty Deadly by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Emma Rios, is published by Image Comics tomorrow.
