For Marvelman, A New Hope? Nope.

9z5qmz4uacnqf4kfloj6We talked to Glasweigan writer Andrew Hope last year about his new Marvel comic project. Of which he couldn't say much. Hope was a peer of Mark Millar back in the day and worked on Trident Comics with him. But since then… not so much. And suddenly he was taking calls from Axel Alonso.

As we said then, he was represented by Jon Campbell, the man who represented Marvelman creator Mick Anglo to Marvel.

He's now started tweeting more.

Comicbookresources just rang the dinner bell and emailed me a bunch of questions about my secret Marvel project! #excited #comebackkid

W00t! Secret Marvel project to be announced ahead of SDCC. So, next week? #thewaitisalmostover

All y'all muthafuckas better start following me NOW, or get lost in the rush. #getinonthegroundfloor #iwastherefirst

MTV is interviewing me next! #secretmarvelproject

And then, for some reason, as if to get my attention, he asked if he could help me get a copy of the Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead DVD, which seems to be unavailable in the UK.

@richjohnston Which version? "… Are Dead"? Very cheap over here. Want me to buy it for you and send it over?

— Andrew Hope (@sputnik67) July 8, 2013

He got my attention.

@richjohnston Wait .. Marvelman?

— Andrew Hope (@sputnik67) July 8, 2013

Which is the closest I was going to get to an official comment. But I was not the only one putting two and two together, and possibly getting five. Pádraig Ó Méalóid on The Beat checks him on Facebook saying;

First interview request for my top secret, miraculous Marvel project, from Comicbookresources, even. Not sure how much I want to actually say … but I suppose I can reveal here and now that my series features a character with a cult following, made famous by an extremely famous and successful British writer a number of years ago. How vague is that?

Leading Pádraig to state;

Marvel Comics have hired Andrew Hope to write MARVELMAN.

It did look like that, doesn't it? But I kept asking around.

And sorry folks. It's not Marvelman.

Sorry, Pádraig. You're wrong.
