Magic: The Gathering Is Headed For The Big Screen
Some heads in the 20-something nerd-dom are about to explode. Magic: The Gathering is (finally?) becoming a movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
20th Century Fox have optioned the rights to build a cinematic universe on the scale of Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings based on the card/role playing game born in 1993 from Hasbro. It's about wizards and creatures and magic and basically sounds a lot like what Duncan Jones is doing with Warcraft: A known brand affixed to a wide-open fantasy background with plenty of storylines to choose from. Simon Kinberg, who's also overseeing X-Men and Fantastic Four for the studio, is taking charge of this one as well.
