If you haven't listened to every soundtrack on this list, do yourself a favor and go look them up now. Just about every one of 'em should be available on YouTube or Soundcloud. And damn, is that some great listening. Video games might not be the genre you think of when you think about the importance of a good soundtrack, but a bad soundtrack can ruin a game, because you're going to spend at least six hours listening to it, so it damn well better be good.
And 2017 gave us some pretty good soundtracks. Shockingly, despite the popularity of Cuphead's soundtrack, it wasn't even in our top three. Persona 5 took home the gold this year, because that soundtrack makes up about 50 percent of the game. And considering the Persona series is known for good soundtracks and dance spin-offs, this win was pretty much in the bag. Coming in second was Breath of the Wild with it's soothing adventure soundtrack, and rounding out the top three was NieR: Automata's more experimental, industrial sound. That said, any of the soundtracks on this list makes for some great listening.
