Bond Will Now Be Shooting Soviet Spies At Scientific Games
James Bond will be coming to a casino and freemium smartphone app near you in the future as Scientific Games just landed a deal with the franchise. There have been tons of knockoffs on the market, the one that always comes to mind for me was a machine I saw years ago at the MGM (of all places) called "Double-0 7's," your standard triple slot machine where it paid out big if you landed a 007 or 777. It would have been smarter to make it a blackjack or poker game, but if you're already making a tacky Bond knockoff game, chances are your creativity is sapped.
The deal with MGM will allow the game maker to create land-based gaming, lottery, and social slots. It also gives the company rights to use past and future licensed Bond characters, meaning you could actually see Timothy Dalton appear on a machine. …Well, probably not, but the characters he and every other Bond interacted with could show up, including fan favorites like Dr. No, Jaws, Q, Oddjob, Baron Samedi and more. The company seems thrilled at the prospect of getting their hands on a property that, up until now, has had a rocky relationship with licensing in general.
"The Bond franchise is clearly a long sought-after and incredibly exciting brand for our industry. James Bond is synonymous with action, excitement, and next-generation technology. We look forward to harnessing the power of the Bond brand to drive innovation across the Company in the years ahead," said Scientific Games Chief Executive Officer, Kevin Sheehan.
