Capcom Pretty Confident Resident Evil 7 Will Sell 4 Million Units On Launch Day
Resident Evil 6 is quite infamous as an example of Capcom expecting the world from a title. It sold 6 million units (which is a lot of games sold!) before Capcom called it a commercial failure.
Worryingly, Resident Evil 7 might be finding itself succumbing to the same expectations. Speaking to MCV, EMEA marketing director Antoine Molant said:
Ideally, we'd love to sell 4m on Day One globally. That would be great. Looking at what we see in the pre-orders and trends these days, we're pretty confident we are going to get there. All the signs that we have seen across the market, whether it's from the UK or from other territories, are very positive so far. We're not sitting back and relaxing at all because we want to push that. The confidence is there.
Now, the figure was justified by pre-orders being above expectation at the moment, so that is fine. At the same time, horror can be a tougher sell in such massive numbers, and this most certainly is looking like a horror focused entry into the series. We will have to see.
