Earn Pokémon GO PokéCoins From Your Couch, Because Social Distancing

In the past, earning PokéCoins in Pokémon GO has required that you leave your home to do so. In fact, since that's what the entire game revolves around, you had to leave your home for most of its functions. Developer Niantic has been making some changes to the game, however, in the name of social distancing. There will be a way to earn PokéCoins without having to leave the safety of your own home during this time of social distancing.

Previously, Pokémon GO PokéCoins would only be available if you played with Gyms. You would have to first capture it and then keep it in your possession while defending it for an hour. You can still do this, but while you used to earn six coins an hour, you'll now get two. However, Niantic will be introducing daily quests to complete that will pay out in PokéCoins.

The official Pokémon GO announcement noted that these quests include a variety of easy-to-complete objectives. You might need to take a snapshot in the app or make a certain type of throw with your Poké Ball. There will be more difficult tasks up for grabs as well if you're up to finishing them. Completing a raid will obviously pay out more coins than taking a snapshot.

Completing your daily set of tasks can net you up to 55 free coins, which isn't anything to sneeze at. However, you won't be able to test this new change just yet. At first, Niantic will be letting Australian players try the new PokéCoin system out alone. Then, depending on player feedback, the game changes will be sent to other players. There's no date currently for when you can expect to start earning PokéCoins outside of Australia in this manner, but hopefully, that's coming very soon.
