Final Fantasy XIV Dad of Light is Getting a Feature Film Adaptation
The TV drama Final Fantasy XIV: Dad of Light is getting a feature film adaptation. Dad of Light itself was based off a blog series written by a Final Fantasy player who chronicled his attempts to bond with his father through the game.
The news came through this morning on Kotaku:
Japanese TV drama Final Fantasy XIV: Dad of Light is getting a feature film adaptation. It will star Kentaro Sakaguchi as the son and Kotaro Yoshida. In the original TV show, Yudai Chiba played the son and Ren Osugi, who passed away last year, was the father.
Dad of Light was moved to Netflix in August of 2017 after a successful run in Japan. The Netflix version of the show came with English subtitles and Japanese audio.
The show is a heartwarming tale about parent-child bonding over a shared experience, though many of the details do require a working knowledge of the MMO. The show utlized a ton of in-engine footage captured in the game. Whether the feature film will do the same remains to be seen as early details are scarce.
