Monster Hunter: World Topped the US Game Charts for January
Monster Hunter: World has topped even more sales charts, this time in the US. While the game has held the top download spot in Japan for several weeks running, we finally have the game's US sales numbers for January.
According to analysts at The NPD Group, Monster Hunter: World was the top-selling title in the United States in January. The top spots for January are below:
- Monster Hunter: World
- Dragon Ball FighterZ
- Call of Duty: WWII
- PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds
- Grand Theft Auto V
- NBA 2K18
- Super Mario Odyssey
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Madden NFL 18
After a whopping five million copies were shipped in its first three days, Monster Hunter: World has gone on to become Capcom's fastest-selling game ever. Additionally, Capcom was the leading publisher for January in terms of software sales despite only having one game up on that top ten list.
Meanwhile, Dragon Ball: FighterZ was the second best-selling game in the U.S. last month.
You might notice some older games up there, including Grand Theft Auto V, which continues to be a top-selling game despite being pretty much ancient as far as video games go. GTA V has been a veritable cash cow for publisher Rockstar Games since launch and often ends up boosting their yearly bottom line thanks to the success of GTA Online.
Compared to January of last year, software sales for PS4, Xbox One, and PC all saw over 40 percent growth, and hardware spending grew 119 percent, so the games industry has done pretty well year over year.
