Octopath Traveler has Already Reached 1 Million Copies Shipped
Nintendo of Europe has announced that Square Enix's Octopath Traveler has already reached 1 million copies shipped.
Octopath Traveller is a callback to a certain time for JRPGs. While the genre has evolved dramatically over time, there is still a hungry audience for games in the vein of older Final Fantasys. The turn-based, grindfests with a focus on long, sprawling storylines still has a place in many hearts still, and Octopath Traveler is very much in that vein. Since its release, it's been scratching that itch for many players. In Japan, it has really taken off, the game near selling out in its first few days.
That's why this news shouldn't surprise us too much. Nintendo of Europe has taken to Twitter to announce that Octopath Traveler has shipped 1 million copies in just a few short weeks, especially a title on just one platform. That is incredible going for a game this size, which shares the figure across physical and digital sales. In the tweet, Nintendo of Europe thanked fans on behalf of Square Enix, saying:
In a lot of ways, Octopath Traveler reminds me of Bravely Default's success a few years ago. Like that game, I expect this title to eventually see a sequel due to there being such a hunger for it. I can't see a world where Square Enix doesn't continue the success of the series moving forward and that should excite fans.
