We Got to Play Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at E3, and It Was Awesome

One of the highlights to E3 this year was getting to take part in the Nintendo press booth, and the first item on our list was jumping on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Nintendo basically spilled the beans about the game in great detail before we ever got our hands on it, so essentially we can confirm what they said was true. Every character in the game's almost 20-year history will be available to play, along with practically every stage you've ever seen as we got a taste of things from the N64 all the way to the Wii U. Much like they did with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the company went out of their way to make everything as amazing as possible and create what is essentially an all-in-one collection.

The game handles like a dream, as the controls have been set up to work well with either the joy-cons or a pro controller. The graphics are an absolute dream, as everything has been cleaned up and refined and everyone looks their absolute best on a Nintendo Switch. But hey, you kinda knew this was happening already.

Let's get to the real question you probably want to know. Is it better than previous Smash Bros. games? Depends on the kind of player you are. There are Melee fans that I could see finally moving over to this version as they're getting everything they loved from that with a new roster. But I could also see people hating the progression of the game and hating where Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is headed.

We loved the game, and we can't wait to get our hands on it this December. This is the total package for Smash Bros. fans. There's no real reason to hate on this unless you're just hating on it to be a troll. If you have a favorite from the past, that's totally cool — this game is not here to take anything away from the past. But as far as the future goes, the demo we tried out has us convinced this may be the greatest game in the series. Period.
