Taking advantage of a fitting name, Square Enix is joining forces with the American Red Cross to launch a Stormblood blood drive during the Electronic Entertainment Expo taking place June 13th to 15th. Yes, they have decided to celebrate the launch of Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood with a literal storm of blood.

In conjunction with the debut of Square Enix's second expansion of Final Fantasy XIV, donors will have the opportunity to donate blood in the newly-themed Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood bloodmobile. Additional blood drive opportunities will be available after E3 as the Stormblood bloodmobile visits several college campuses throughout Southern California.

The Red Cross urges those who have never given blood before — as well as those who haven't given recently — to make an appointment to give blood now and help sustain a sufficient community blood supply this summer. Morten Haugaard, marketing director of MMOs for Square Enix, said:

"Whether it's in a game or in real life, everyone needs a helping hand. That's why we've joined forces with the Red Cross and their important mission to help save lives. The Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood blood drive will visit college campuses throughout Southern California to spotlight their vital work."

The hours for the Stormblood Blood Drive, taking place at the Los Angeles Convention Center at 1201 S. Figueroa St., are:

  • Tuesday, June 13, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Wednesday, June 14, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Thursday, June 15, 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
As a thank you, those who come to give blood at E3 will receive a free commemorative T-shirt, while supplies last. The Red Cross urges eligible donors with all blood types to make an appointment to help ensure lifesaving blood is available for cancer patients, accident victims and others in need. Blood donation appointments can be scheduled through the Red Cross Blood Donor App, online at redcrossblood.org or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
