Gearbox CEO Says There Will Be More Borderlands But It Won't Be Soon
I assumed that Borderlands 3 had been in production for a long time. I thought that the Pre-Sequel was to hold fans over for another main number release in the franchise, which that was coming soon. Turns out I was probably wrong.
Speaking to IGN at Develop 2015, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford said that more Borderlands is coming, it just might not be all that soon. When asked if the game was imminent, he said:
Probably not. It depends on how you define soon. There'll almost certainly be more Borderlands, but we need to figure out what that is. I don't even know if it's Borderlands 3, but yeah. There are people working on Borderlands things for the future at Gearbox but we haven't announced anything yet.
He then added that the next game in the series might not even be Borderlands 3 or that if it was, it might not actually be what we think it will be
And why would it be called Borderlands 3? What if it's Borderlands 4 – there's already been three Borderlands games. What if it's Borderlands 5? What we call it and what it is are things we care about and we're engaged about but it would be irresponsible to share anything at this stage, because almost certainly anything we're thinking now is going to change between now and when we commit ourselves.
I suppose, if Pitchford is telling the truth, we might actually be a little bit away from hearing about the next Boderlands game. Battleborn is up this year from the developer, and we will have to see what comes after that.
