Street Fighter V Producer Says R. Mika Buttslap Was Removed So People Wouldn't Be Uncomfortable

So, this has been a bit off a weird storm brewing in a cup recently. In early footage of Street Fighter V, the character R. Mika slapped her behind as part of one of her moves. In subsequent footage, that animation has been removed, and to a lot of noise too. Calls of sensorships and lots of stuff about "SJW's" have been thrown around, much like in the recent Dead or Alive: Xtreme 3 debacle.

Well, producer and all round community favorite Yoshinori Ono has been out talking about this very specifically. In an interview with UOL Jogos (via NeoGAF), Ono said that the animation was a removed to bringing in as many people as possible and make them comfortable. He said:

We want the professional players and the casual fans of the series to return, but we also want to reach those who have never even touched a fighting game. So we can't have something in the game that makes people think, 'This is not acceptable.

We didn't make any change because of external influences. Those changes came up internally. We decided to remove that because we want the biggest possible number of people to play, and we don't want to have something in the game that might make someone uncomfortable.

…we won't be able to remove everything that could offend someone. But our goal is, at least, to reduce that number as much as possible so that they think 'Ok, there is this issue here, but it is within the limits.' We want that everyone can play and enjoy without worrying about anything else.

I think there is more noise being had here than this merits, as I wasn't at all aware of any one seriously calling for the moment to be removed before it was. This doesn't look to be a reaction to any outrage or campaigning, and instead seems entirely on the developer trying to make their game as accessible as possible.

Granted, that is only my take though…
