Director Robert Rodriguez Shares a New Poster for Alita: Battle Angel
No one is really sure what to expect from the big screen, live-action adaptation of Alita: Battle Angel. 20th Century Fox is promoting the movie but they also keep shifting the release date. In the last year, the movie has gone from July 2018 to December 2018, to February 2019. The latter move was probably a good idea on Fox's part since this December is full of a lot of big releases and the movie likely would have gotten buried under Aquaman and Bumblebee. Director Robert Rodriguez has been doing a good job at keeping the film in the back of people's minds so they don't forget about it. This time it comes in the form of sharing a new poster on his Twitter account.
This poster, unlike some of the others we've seen, features most of the primary cast in some way. This is an interesting movie, visually, if nothing else. It's just a matter of whether or not those visuals will work with the story they decide to tell.
When Alita (Rosa Salazar) awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world she does not recognize, she is taken in by Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate doctor who realizes that somewhere in this abandoned cyborg shell is the heart and soul of a young woman with an extraordinary past. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious history while her street-smart new friend Hugo (Keean Johnson) offers instead to help trigger her memories. But it is only when the deadly and corrupt forces that run the city come after Alita that she discovers a clue to her past – she has unique fighting abilities that those in power will stop at nothing to control. If she can stay out of their grasp, she could be the key to saving her friends, her family and the world she's grown to love.
Alita: Battle Angel, directed by Robert Rodriguez, stars Rosa Salazar, Eiza González, Jennifer Connelly, Michelle Rodriguez, Mahershala Ali, Christoph Waltz, and Jackie Earle Haley. It will be released on February 14th.
