Indiana Jones 5 Delayed, Will Miss Its July 2020 Release Date
Earlier today it was reported that Solo: A Star Wars Story co-writer Jonathan Kasdan was being brought on as a new writer. At the time it wasn't clear whether this was going to be a new draft or if he was coming in to work on an existing script. It's looking like it's the former, since Variety is now reporting that Indiana Jones 5 will not begin production in April of 2019 as originally planned and will miss the July 2020 release date.
The production could be pushed back a few months to a full year depending on these script issues. The deal with Kasdan hasn't been confirmed yet, but insiders are stressing that both director Steven Spielberg and star Harrison Ford still want to do the project — but Spielberg is a busy guy. There is a good chance he could pick up another project in the meantime and push production back even further.
No one at Disney has commented yet, and the movie is still on the schedule. This is a developing story, and more information should become available as soon as Disney makes a formal statement.
