Did Marvel Just Slyly Drop A Big Villain's Name For Punisher?

jigsawThis morning saw the announcement of three characters added to the upcoming Marvel's Punisher series form Netflix. The characters the announced are Billy Russo, Micro and Dinah Madani. Now A lot of people would look at Micro and think he was the big name… but he's not.

Billy Russo though is the real name of Jigsaw, head of the Maggia Crime Syndicate. His origin is closely intertwined with that of Frank Castle. He was part of the failed mob hit that killed Castle's wife and kids and in return, Castle took out his crew, but threw him through a plate glass window causing his once handsome face to be turned into a jigsaw puzzle.

When Marvel did the Punisher: War Zone movie, Dominic West was cast as Billy Russo / Jigsaw. The new casting has Ben Barnes who is currently in Westworld on HBO. Originally Barnes was announced as Bobby Saint, a nod to the sons of John Travolta's characters form the Tom Jane Punisher movie.

Jigsaw has made multiple appearances over the years as a villain for Punisher though he first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #162 and is credited to Len Wein and Ross Andru.

microchipMicro… or rather David "Microchip" Leiberman… was a computer hacker in the early days, but retired when he got too close to the criminal underworld. His nephew tried following in his footsteps and ended up getting killed for hacking into the computer of Wilson Fisk. While looking into the murder, Microchip met and began working with Castle. They've cast Ebon Moss-Bachrach from Girls to play the character. Microchip first appeared in Punisher Vol 2 #4 and was created by Mike Baron And Klaus Janson.

The character of Dinah Madani (Amber Rose Revah) appears to be a new one, but she might also be a variation on a handful of different characters that have come up in the series.
