Preacher Gets Pilot Order From AMC
The home of Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead is going to try and dip into the comic book well once again as AMC has given a pilot order to the Preacher series from This Is The End writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. The two will direct the pilot while Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad) will write the script and be the showrunner.
Preacher is a Vertigo comic series that ran for 75 issues total (66 regular plus specials and miniseries) written by Garth Ennis, drawn by Steve Dillon with covers by Glenn Fabry. The story focuses on Jesse Custer, a Texas preacher who was possessed by a creature named Genesis and killed his entire congregation. The merger of the two gives Custer the ability to compel anyone to do anything. He joins with his ex-girlfriend Tulip O'Hare and an Irish vampire named Cassidy and the trio hit the road to go find God.
Preacher was one of seven projects AMC executives were high on and meet about recently. It is also the only one to get a pilot order.
