It's no secret that the main games in the Resident Evil series are in a bit of a mess. Resident Evil 5 and 6 really lead the franchise astray from its roots. A focus on action has muddled the franchise's iconic voice, which lead to Resident Evil 6 in particular being a very jumbled affair tonally.
Capcom have since gone back to focusing on its survival-horror roots what with the remake of Resident Evil just hitting and Revelation 2 on the horizon.
In an interview with VideoGamer, the latter's producer Michiteru Okabe told the site that he expects big things from the next main game.
We don't really have a window into whatever else is going on. That would be a separate team and whatever that team is doing we're confident that those guys are going to do something that's going to blow our minds.
Okabe admits that he doesn't really have any inkling into what the next game will be though.
We can't wait to basically be there with you guys to find out whatever the heck that is.
I have to say I'm a little skeptical that Okabe wouldn't know anything about the title. Even though he isn't on the main series, I'd speculate he would have heard whispers at least.
The other option is that Capcom haven't yet committed to what Resident Evil 7 will be yet. I think this recent fascination with scarier survival games is telling though. If these titles do well, I think the next game will be closer to what we expect from a Resident Evil game.
