Spotify App Launches – And Is Exclusive – On PlayStation Platforms
Spotify is a pretty important force in the music industry, both for consumers and distributors. In fact, I'm playing it as I type. I don't know many people who don't use it or a direct alternative for at least some of their listening habits.
That's why this is a little bit of a coup for Sony. Today a Spotify app has launched on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. Most users will already have it downloaded too as it was stealthily implemented to replace Music Unlimited in a patch last week. The app is integrated on a console level meaning you can use it in the background for all of your game playing.
That exclusivity is going to be here for a while too. Speaking to Eurogamer, UK marketing director for Sony, Murray Pannell said:
PlayStation have gaming exclusivity.
That's [length of exclusivity] to be decided exactly, but certainly for the foreseeable.
Like I said, this is a pretty big get for Sony. I know I'll be using it in some of the more menial gaming tasks I do on the PlayStation 4.
