Deadpool Dodges A Bullet In The Sideshow Booth At San Diego Comic Con
San Diego Comic Con 2016 has begun and I was lucky enough to attend the second ever SDCC press preview. I, along with fellow Bleeding Cool writer Octavio Karbank, were able to see the floor while under construction and visit with several booths. Octavio and I split the coverage of the booths, so here is my half and make sure to check out his articles.
David Glanzer, Marketing and PR Director for Comic-Con International, and Michelle Lew-Peterson, Social Media Manager for Comic-Con International, were there to greet us and answered a few questions about this year's Con. I asked Glanzer whether there was no Public Wifi this year in order to avoid a large number of Pokemon Go accidents, he jokingly said yes, however it seemed as if the past problems with Wifi made having it at the Con not worth the trouble that it has caused.
As a surprise the amazing volunteer that I had Wondercon, Ryan, was our tour guide. Our first stop was Sideshow Collectibles where Steve Zimmerman, Communication Manager, showed us around the booth. First up were three Premium Format Star Wars Dark Lords – Darth Vader, Darth Maul, and Kylo Ren. All are available for preorder and the Vader, pictured below, has a light up Lightsaber and chest plate. The Darth Maul has the double Lightsaber and also the Lightsaber split in half.
Next up were the amazing Premium Format figures for Guardians of the Galaxy – Gamora, Angela, Rocket Raccoon and an absolutely gorgeous Groot. Shown only in silhouette as part of Sideshow's online Comic-Con, in person Rocket and Groot were a sight to see and I am guessing that they are sadly out of my price range. Groot has spores on him that light up and he is around 20 inches.
Also new was Maquette featuring the first appearance of Wolverine in battle with Hulk.
But the most amazing show premiere of all was the Deadpool Maquette. Showing Deadpool dodging a missile with flames coming out of the back, flames coming of the gun with the bullet visible out of the flames, and shells out of the side.
Sideshow had a number of Hot Toys make their first appearance. The big release, and in every sense of the word are the Star Wars vehicles – with Rey's Speed, the Millennium Falcon cockpit, and Tie-Fighter Intercepter, all at 1/6 scale.
Also there were a number of new figures, including the new Luke Skywalkerat 1/6 scale and Cosbaby.
Big from Hot Toys is a large number of figures for Suicide Squad, with 4 Jokers, 1 Harley Quinn, 1 Batman, 1 Deadshot, and whole bunch of Cosbabies on display.
The last thing we were shown was the new Daredevil Hot Toy, based on the Netflix show.
