Black Lighting Changes Setting, A Step Closer To Joining The Arrowverse

Here is an interesting bit of news concerning the upcoming CW series Black Lightning that almost slipped through the cracks. The series was originally being set in either Atlanta or NOLA, but according to TVLine's Michael Ausiello, the show will not take place in the fictional city of Freeland.

Black Lightning

The original Black Lightning story from the comics has Jefferson Pierce set up in the Suicide Slums, an area of Metropolis. But the CW has avoided showing modern day Metropolis or Gotham in any of their series. And while originally, the Cress Williams lead series wasn't necessarily going to be part of the Arrowverse, it made sense to move it away from Metropolis. And giving it a fictional city name helps it fit in the Arrowverse a little better.

Legends of Tomorrow has taken viewers to some real-world cities when the history dictates it, but at they also take us to places like Hub City, Bludhaven, Steel City, Nanda Parbat, Markovia, National City, Opal City, Star City and Central City. This website lists some the fictional cities Legends has taken us to so far. So it wouldn't be too far out of the ordinary for Atlanta to exist, but they seem to prefer to have fictional cities.

This is the second thing to make it look like the CW is at least leaning towards making Black Lightning part of the bigger cohesive Arrowverse. The first was to include it in the recent Where Heroes Are Born video showing the new series mixed in with Arrow, Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow.  If you missed the video, here it is again:
