REVIEW: Far Sector #2 — "There's So Much To Like Here"

DC Comics, creative team: N.K. Jemisin, Jamal Campbell, Deron Bennett

With just a smidge less story meat on the bones of its plot, this exciting, visual issue still has tons to offer. A city that has known centuries of peace suddenly has two murders on the docket and a rookie Green Lantern looking for answers. There's so much to like here, starting with the vibrant, kinetic, enthralling visuals from Campbell and Bennett. The open air atrium is a gasp inducing wonder, the literal dance number will have you closely examining each moment and even quiet moments over a cup of not-coffee have wonderful little treats of imagery for the reader. Then you get into Jemisin's script, depicting a complex and competent woman who is out of her depth but swimming steadily towards the surface. The well developed detente between three sentient species is in the balance, held together by a thread that looks frayed from this point of view, and watching that slowly unravel is very engaging. This imaginative, fresh take on both the Lantern franchise and the science fiction procedural is well worth your money and will definitely bring you running back for more. RATING: BUY.
