Justice League #29 Review: Generational Uprising

Wheels are set into motion as the future Aquaman continues his attack upon the Justice League. He already attacked the Batcave, and now he comes after Superman, with the other Leaguers to follow.

The future children of the Justice League, with Wonder Woman catching onto their plans and the person they believe responsible for the catastrophe to come, attack Diana Prince in the hopes of saving the future.

Simon Baz and Steve Trevor are still trying to control the contagion in Gateway City. Unfortunately, a voice is speaking to Simon, and his resolve may not be enough to resist it.

After last issue's more character-centric proceedings, Justice League #29 is more intent on moving the current plot forward. Things happen fast, but the plot is well-enough established so that the reader will have no trouble following if they've read the previous issues of this arc.

It's exciting, with each sequence leaving the reader wondering what will happen next. Who is up on Future Aquaman's hitlist? How far are the children willing to go to save the future? How will Wonder Woman react? What exactly is this contagion in Gateway City?

"Legacy" has been a fantastic story for Justice League, and watching it come to a head is exciting. I'm not sure how this one will turn out. Knowing the children of the Justice League as well as we do now, it is saddening to watch them turn on the team like this. Bryan Hitch has plotted this arc well, and it's falling into place seamlessly.

The artistic team continues to fire on all cylinders, with Fernando Pasarin providing incredible, detailed, and expressive artwork. Brad Anderson's color art is great, and the overall aesthetic is worthy of the prestige of the Justice League.

I'm also writing a review on the newest issues of the Avengers today (it may already be published, or it will be published later). To tilt my hand a bit, this is by design, and Justice League shook out to be the better issue. Now this has nothing to do with "the state of Marvel" or the lineup of either team, frankly I enjoy Sam Wilson, Jane Foster, Nadia Pym, and Hercules very much as characters. Honestly, I'm an Avengers guy; I have been ever since I got into comic books. They are the only team I actually like almost as much as the Thunderbolts. Anyway, read my review of Avengers #11 to get the scoop on its shortcomings. But, do know that in the battle of the big teams of the Big Two, DC's Justice League actually wins this week.

With "Legacy" coming to a climax, I excitedly recommend Justice League this week. The story continues to get better, and you should most certainly pick it up.
