Late Night Fun – How Different Artist Interpret The Same Layout
Being the age I am, when someone mentions of the Guardians of the Galaxy I think of Yondu, Martinex, Charlie-27 and Starhawk… I also think of the work of Jim Valentino. Jim of course was one of the founders of Image Comics and runs Shadowline which puts out a lot of amazing books. Check out Shadowline's website here.
I had the privilege of working with Jim on both Savage and Shadowhawk.
Think about him, I remembered a very cool post he did on his facebook page a few weeks back that I had wanted to share with the BC readers. It's a series of images where he did the layout for the page and multiple artists worked independently on a version. It was fascinating to me how these varied. Here is the set up in his own words:
In March of 1996 Rob Liefeld ran a storyline called "HATE" in all Extreme titles. He (or editor Eric Stephenson, or both) asked me to lay out pages 7 and 8 which would appear in each book. This is my original layout and then, different artist's interpretations of same.(In order of how I uploaded them–Bloodpool Special #1, Youngblood Vol. II #5, Supreme #36, Maximage #3 and New Man #2 (where the artist was so lazy, or so incompetent, he left out the background that was laid out for him). I don't know who the individual artists are anymore, but, well, here it is–
