Original Amazing Spider-Man Civil War Art By Ron Garney Up For Auction (Updated)

Four pieces of original art by Ron Garney from the first Civil War run have gone up for auction. The pieces are from The Amazing Spider-Man issues that tied into the first Civil War event. With the Civil War II just kicking off and the recent release of Captain America: Civil War, the market for pages like this should be pretty good… but the prices here are much lower that would be expected.

This is the cover from Amazing Spider-Man #538, it's going for only $375.00 right now. The price could be low because the art only covers half the page, but that is how the cover was presented as you can see. You just don't find cover art from an established artist like Garney on a Marvel event going for that little. As an example, right now on eBay, Garney's Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #4 cover is going for $2,000.00.

Update – there was some confusion in the initial listing, the below is a cover rough, not the final cover art. The auction has been removed. The other three auctions remain.

There is also the cover for Amazing Spider-Man #537, except it's not the cover. It was the first version of the cover but not used. You can compare it to the printed one below. The obvious change is Spider-Man's costume, but there are other differences. This piece is sitting at only $210.00.

There are also two impressive interior pages. This one is from Amazing Spider-Man #533 (Page 23) and shows the rest of team Iron Man including Wasp, The Fantastic Four, The Thunderbolts and more. The auction for this page is at $325.00.

Now the only one that seems to be getting even close to what it might be worth, and it's still probably worth more than $550.00 is this page from Amazing Spider-Man #532 (Page 21) and it shows Spidey preparing for the press conference where he reveals his true identity.

These bids have a week left on them, but I'm still surprised with how low the prices are still. With the current tie-ins going on right now, I'd expect these pages to go up in price still, especially the cover art.
