Final Fantasy XIV Has Teamed Up With Mobius Final Fantasy For The Ultimate FF Crossover Event
Square Enix really loves crossover events between their major titles and their mobile titles, if you haven't guessed by now. With over 87 Final Fantasy games to work with, it was inevitable that Mobius Final Fantasy was going to have some absurd crossovers. This time, the game in question is Final Fantasy XIV in celebration of the game's newest expansion, but rather than going with all the Stormblood hype, this one takes us back to a simpler time in the world of FFXIV. Our crossover mega boss is the Ultima Weapon.
For those who don't play FFXIV, the Ultima Weapon should still be rather familiar. It is a six-limbed bio-mechanical monster that first appeared in Final Fantasy VI. It is a recurring superboss in the series, but since Final Fantasy VII, it has been a weaker version of the Omega Weapon, often appearing alongside Omega and Shinryu in a trio of optional bosses. Ultima Weapon is also the namesake of the powerful sword which is sometimes obtained by defeating the boss.
In FFXIV, there is nothing optional about fighting Ultima. Ultima was the major boss of Final Fantasy XIV 2.0: A Realm Reborn, and that is the version of Ultima that's come to Mobius Final Fantasy. This version of Ultima was created by the Allagan civilization as a way to combat Eikons, which are the primals that plague the world of FFXIV. Ultima is recovered by the Garlean Empire and then used against the Warrior of Light in the final story encounter of version 2.0.
Players who log in to Mobius Final Fantasy during the crossover event, which runs from today through June 22, can obtain three unique Final Fantasy XIV cards: Bahamut, Odin, and Garuda through the limited-time special event Summon. In multiplayer mode, there will be an opportunity to fight the destructive Ultima Weapon who appears as a powerful new boss that will drop special components when defeated, which can be exchanged for Skillseeds, summon tickets, and other valuable items.
Additionally, Mobius Final Fantasy will offer a "Welcome Back Campaign," from which a variety of rewards will be given to new, returning, and current players. New and returning players—those logging in for the first time in 30 or more days—will be given a Mobius Gift Box containing summon tickets and other helpful items. Current players who log in will receive 20x Ability Tickets in place of the gift box.
All players will also receive one free Greater Summon as part of the Welcome Back Campaign. As the number of returning and new players who log into the game during the campaign period (June 9 – June 22) increases, additional bonuses will be added to the free Greater Summon, including guaranteed 5★ and job cards.
