Fornite Broke Out The Ban Hammer On Thousands Of Players Today

Fortnite's Battle Royale mode has seen "thousands" of players banned for cheating in the last few days, and Epic Games has no problem in continuing to wield the ban hammer. Community Co-Ordinator Nathan Mooney confirmed today that battling cheats in Fortnite is "the highest priority" across the company.

As reported by VG24/7, Epic acknowledges that the problem of cheaters in both the Battle Royale and across its games in general is an "ongoing" problem that they're committed to tackling head-on, by targeting both "the cheaters themselves and the cheat providers". However, Epic is not going into details about the exact measures taken so as not to tip off said cheaters and cheat makers/. However, players can be assured that tools are being rolled out to combat cheaters and that this will continue. So hopefully Fortnite will be much more cheat free as the game continues. Specifically, Mooney stressed that Epic has "no plans to stop" when it comes to tackling cheating. So these bans are not a temporary measure.

One method that Mooney did detail is the use of progression rewards as a discouragement tactic. The idea is that progression rewards will see players earning those rewards as they play. both a fun and rewarding progression system but also discouraging players from simply cheating their progression and eventually getting banned. Sure, there will still be "persistent trolls", but it is one way to deter the more casual cheater from continuing to do so.

Fortnite has recently passed the 7 million player milestone, so the "thousands" of cheaters Mooney identified as being banned are only a small proportion of the overall player base. However, cheaters aren't the only problem right now on Fortnite's plate. Bluehole, the developer of the massively popular PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, recently said that they are "considering action" over Fortnite's Battle Royale mode, which it feels is too similar to its own game. Now, will Bluehole actually pursue legal action? We aren't sure. And even if they did, that does not gurantee that they'd be successful in their suit. Because really, battle royale games are not a new thing, and if Bluehole go after every battle royale game, they just won't ever be able to stop.

However, that's still another problem for Epic Games to face, which has got to be a massive stresser, so it's good to see the cheating problem being taken care of.
