Top Mega Ampharos Counters

Pokebattler, which calculates all possible combinations of Pokémon and moves, lists the top ten Mega Ampharos counters as such:

  • Mega Rayquaza: Dragon Tail, Outrage
  • Primal Groudon: Mud Shot, Precipice Blades
  • Mega Garchomp: Dragon Tail, Outrage
  • Shadow Garchomp: Dragon Tail, Outrage
  • Mega Salamence: Dragon Tail, Outrage
  • Mega Latios: Dragon Breath, Dragon Claw
  • Shadow Salamence: Dragon Tail, Outrage
  • Shadow Dragonite: Dragon Tail, Outrage
  • Mega Gardevoir: Charm, Dazzling Gleam
  • Shadow Excadrill: Mud-Slap, Scorching Sands

It is recommended to power up your counters as much as possible, but creating that amount of strong Shadow Pokémon with their moves unlocked is a tall order for even the most practiced players. Here are ten additional non-Shadow and non-Mega counters that can help take down Mega Ampharos with efficiency.

  • Haxorus: Dragon Tail, Breaking Swipe
  • Rayquaza: Dragon Tail, Breaking Swipe
  • Garchomp: Dragon Tail, Outrage
  • Groudon: Mud Shot, Precipice Blades
  • Zekrom: Dragon Breath, Outrage
  • Salamence: Dragon Tail, Outrage
  • Palkia: Dragon Tail, Draco Meteor
  • Dragonite: Dragon Tail, Outrage
  • Kyurem: Dragon Breath, Glaciate
  • Dialga: Dragon Breath, Draco Meteor

How Many Trainers Are Needed?

Mega Ampharos can be defeated with two trainers, but if you cannot guarantee the top counters with maxed-out CP and the best moves, your best bet is to make sure you have three or more players. Using the Circle Lock Technique to guarantee Great or Excellent throws, along with Golden Razz Berries, is the best way to catch Pokémon. A successful catch with a Pinap Berry, though, will earn extra Mareep Candy.

Shiny Odds

The Shiny rate for Mega-capable Pokémon is approximately one in 60.
